About Dez

Dez Stavracos is a producer/animator/illustrator based out of Brooklyn, New York. Their recent work includes various ads for Verizon, and the short “Lily and the Snowman” for the Canadian theater chain Cineplex.

Born and raised on Long Island, New York, Dez moved to New York City to attend the The School of Visual Arts. They spent two post-graduate years working as a freelance graphic designer and web developer for companies such as DFA Records and Momofuku Milk Bar, as well making illustrations and animated content for local bands. They began working for Bill Plympton in May of 2010, where they worked in the capacity of producer, as well as editor, lead compositor, creative director, and web designer. There they Produced his 7th Animated Feature, Cheatin’. They then moved into the commercial world, freelancing for Mixtape Club and Hornet, before joining Hornet full-time.  Their credits include two Simpsons “Couch Gag”s,  “Summer Bummer” for Showtime network, and Salma Hayek’s animated feature “The Prophet“.  Commercial clients include Facebook, Amazon, Google, Motorola, Hermes, and San Pellegrino.

They have also collaborated with actor Matthew Modine (Full Metal Jacket) to animate his production company’s identity, and is a recurring contributor to ArtCrank: a group show of bicycle-inspired poster art. They also teach a career strategies workshop for graduating Animation majors at The School of Visual Arts.
